I think this is something very special for our field. There are all kinds of educational textbooks out there for sonographers to read to help teach them how to better diagnose or optimize images, but this is different. This information is just as important as knowing how to scan. I love how relatable, honest, and straight forward this book is. This book is great for future sonographers that aren’t sure where to start, and for seasoned sonographers that want to explore career growth opportunities. I can’t think of a single thing you didn’t cover; from school to every career avenue a sonographer could take. This will benefit so many sonographers; I only wish I had it when I was staring my sonography journey! Thank you for this wonderful contribution to our field!

I would like to say that this is an incredible resource! The allied health faculty at St. Philip's College (including our DMSO program) were just talking about how we wished there were better resources to set our student expectations.

This is a great go to source for future sonography students. There is too much confusing information out on the web. I think this book will be a game changer for future sonography students. It’s a quick, but clear source that is easy to understand. She did an outstanding job.

I learned some things from this book, even though I've been a diagnostic medical sonographer for six years, but it was so informative and detailed.

"Here is my independent review of Samantha Callis' book, "Diagnostic Medical Sonography - The Definitive Guide to Planning Your Career." This book was a joy to review, and I look forward to supporting Samantha and her book for the valuable student resource it proves itself to be. Bravo, Sam, bravo! Step One - Education-- Samantha breaks down the educational choices matter-of-factly, streamlining the benefits and considerations for each academic pathway. In a world of standards, this book breaks down the program formats and admission considerations that will serve prospective sonography candidates well in their desire to navigate careers that best meet their lifestyles successfully. From academic to clinical, this book shares real-world insight into the expectations and life of the sonography student experience. As success favors the prepared, "Diagnostic Medical Sonography - The Definitive Guide to Planning Your Career" will successfully qualify the prospective sonography student to navigate the learning journey to clinical and career success in the most practical of ways. Step Two - Obtaining Your Certification---- Understanding which credential to obtain is made more accessible by realizing that one credential is not better than the other but relatively more so determined by the prerequisites of the training program and program accreditation. The number of registries determines the costs of certifications; however, the case for value and validation is clearly made for consideration. Step Three – Employment---- From test day to payday - transitioning from learner to earner can be daunting. Yet, awareness of market considerations allows employment prospects to make the most informed decisions while weighing opportunities, comp packages, and lifestyle alignment. Step Four - Maintaining Certification---- Fortunately for patients, learning never stops as the practice of medicine evolves. This book highlights living demonstrations that serve as examples for maintaining certification(s). Step Five – Exploring Career Growth---- No matter where the employment process commences, the opportunity to evolve and advance a sonography career will further expand into options the sonograph self-selects to be the most impactful and rewarding, e.g., clinical practice, administration, education, or industry support. Overall Impression: If a prospective student is exploring a career in the medical field, this book concisely reveals pathways to achieve the highest levels of success in medical sonography."
